Classic Clients Clamour for First Progeny of Ready’s Image

The 2012 Inglis Classic Sale unveiled the first Australian yearlings by crack sprinter READY’S IMAGE (USA) and the hype was well justified; the stallion ending the sale as the leading first season sire (by median and average).
Astute judges paid up to US$150,000 for the first Northern Hemisphere bred Ready’s Image yearlings last season and the results from the stallion’s first Southern Hemisphere crop could not have been more impressive.

Top priced yearling was the magnificent colt out of Topsinga (pictured left: consigned by Lincoln Farm) that made $100,000 to the bid of renowned pinhookers BC3 Thoroughbreds. BC3 also secured the first foal – a colt - out of Bye Bye Tata consigned by Kitchwin Hills for $52,500.

“The Topsinga colt spent more time out of his box than in it when he got to Sydney,” reported said Lincoln Farm proprietor Nick Posa. “We have always had a huge rap on the horse so we were glad the market agreed with us!"

Another colt – a half brother to stakes placed Yaqubi out of the Gr 2 Western Australian Oaks winner MYSTIC CHANTRY [pictured left] - brought a final bid of $65,000 to Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock whilst Bendaree Park at Appin sold the colt out of Daloot to Rapture Farm for $57,500.
“The market responded favourably to good looking horses by the stallion in a tough selling environment,” said Posa. “The stallion throws to type and across the board in 2010 we saw good legged, strong bodied, athletic and forward foals and this translated into sales ready yearlings this year.”

“Breeding can be a very tough game for many participants and it is just so great to see this stallion’s supporters so well rewarded for their belief in the horse.”

The son of Champion Australian Sire More Than Ready, Ready’s Image ensured breeders pocketed many multiples of the 2009 service fee ($11,000) with the 5 yearlings sold this week averaging $60,500 (median $57,500).
“It is not just the good sale results we are delighted about,” continued Posa. “The yearlings have gone to some of the best homes possible and will get every chance. When a stallion has a small crop representing him this is essential.”

Ready’s Image stands at Lincoln Farm at Blandford, NSW for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season. He resides at Walmac Farm in America for the Northern Hemisphere season.

The stallion’s oldest progeny are 2YO’s of the current USA season and are widely expected to be well represented at breeze up sales in the next few months

Top Inglis Classic lots in the frame

I photographed yearling drafts for 7 studs for this year's Inglis Classic Sale and I was delighted to see 4 of these stud farms return headline prices for the 2012 Sale. Many congratulations to Berkeley Park, Lincoln Farm, Arrowfield Stud and Middlebrook Valley Lodge.

LOT 43 Fastnet Rock - Polite (consigned by Middlebrook Valley Lodge) was equal top priced top on Day 1 of the 2012 Inglis Classic Sale. The filly will head into the stables of Secret Admirer’s trainer Grahame Begg after being knocked down to Topline Thoroughbreds.

Well grown athletic types are always on high demand at Classic and competition on the better class yearlings remained strong on Day 2 with five lots making $100,000 or more.

“Classic has a great record of producing top class gallopers by young sires and it was very pleasing to see the progeny of first season sires such as Ready’s Image and Henrythenavigator being so sought after alongside the proven sires today”, said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

BC3 Thoroughbreds was extended to $100,000 to secure Lincoln Farm’s Ready’s Image-Topsinga colt (Lot 177) [above].

Leading stallion Choisir was selected from Classic as a yearling for just $55,000 before going onto Group One success at Flemington and Royal Ascot, and his progeny have again been popular at this year’s sale with 17 sold, led by Berkeley Park Stud’s filly from Tagine (Lot 157) which was picked up by Lockyer Thoroughbreds for $110,000.

Arrowfield Stud’s Hussonet-Monte Rosa colt (Lot 560) had plenty of admirers during inspections in Sydney over the last week and after some spirited bidding was knocked down to Mauro Poletti for $140,000 on day 3 of the sale; also the sale's top priced lot.

Have you ever noticed how dogs look remarkably happy with life UNTIL the hose is directed at them (this is despite the fact that they love water and will do whatever it takes to go swimming at the lake each day, are frequent intruders in the swimming pool etc).

With the departure of Tom and Nicole Jordan from Scone last Friday the town loses the restaurant that most of us spent those evenings at when we had to entertain clients or the Sunday mornings we caught up with friends over Tom's famous full breakfast and coffee or his even more delectable French Toast. I talk of Canter. Alas it is no longer; the Jordan's seeking new business opportunities in Byron Bay.I was commissioned to photograph the accommodation arm of the business last week; this house also now being up for sale [the Canter premises sold as office space some months back ... weep!!!!]

Edinglassie Stud take yearling marketing to new level

Digital marketing is the future of how yearlings are presented to the market and for Edinglassie's 2012 Magic Millions Draft I created an interactive magazine that can be seamlessly incorporated with their other sales advertising, the farm's website, client emails etc.

The technology had to cater for rural internet (the joys of Australia not having the broadband speeds that other countries take for granted) but be slick and professional and also user friendly.

This technology is new to the Australian market and it is available exclusively to my photography clients.

After the rain

A huge thunderstorm rolled across Scone this afternoon ripping huge strips of bark off the eucalyptus trees, turning ther horses' manes to froth and dumping another inch of rain on already sodden soil. 2 photo shoots were cancelled (yet more yearlings to try and slot into an increasingly small number of days before the Magic Millions sale) but just before 8pm the sun made a momentary appearance. 7 minutes in all.

It was a pleasant way to celebrate the summer solstice albeit it has been the strangest summer I have ever known in terms of temperature and precipitation!

Darley Christmas Party: A trip back in time

I was commissioned to do a double photo shoot at the Muswellbrook Race Club late last week: the function set-up for the Darley Australia Staff Christmas Party (on behalf of The EVENT Storeroom) and then the Christmas Party itself (on behalf of Darley).

WHAT a night ! Darley have celebrated a momentous year both in the breeding barn and on the racetrack and all staff were in the mood to party with a 1950's/60's theme and exceptional music by local band The Lamplighters well and truly ensuring everyone was soon on the dance floor.
